Proposed Changes to Irish Club of Luxembourg
The Irish Club of Luxembourg will hold an EGM on Tuesday 18 July 2017 at 18:30 at Eirelux (40 Rue des Bruyeres, L-1274 Luxembourg-Howald) to discuss the future of the organisation and elect some officers and committee members.
The club was established over 30 years ago in the Grand Duchy and has served the Irish community very well in that period. Times change and society changes; with this brings changes to people’s lifestyles and availability to volunteer their time.
Proposals being put forward at the EGM will mean that, if adopted, the organisation will evolve to an “umbrella” body, not unlike a federation, where individuals and groups of people can organise events under the auspices of the organisation, without needing a separate legal entity. Annual events will hopefully continue, and more events can be added to the calendar too – for example film screenings, lectures, alumni gatherings, etc.
Committee meetings will be held quarterly, (not monthly as at present), with event-based sub-committees requiring at least one club officer or member of the committee; these sub-committees can organise specific events during the year as long as there is a link with Ireland and the Irish community in Luxembbourg.
For this to work, the organisation needs (urgently!) a Treasurer and an Auditor, with new committee members also welcome. Those interested should contact one of the present committee (Geoff Thompson, Mimmi Oedman, Fiona Mulhern, Carrie Milne), email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
As you can see, we are trying to streamline the bureaucracy / administration, while at the same time making it easier for members to organise events themselves, for the Irish community and Friends of Ireland, in Luxembourg.
Whether or not you decide to volunteer, please attend the EGM to help guide the organisation forward on its future path.
